Who We Are

James (Lance) Irvin

President / CEO

Education: Tarleton State University / Texas A & M University


James (Lance) Irvin is a seasoned oil and gas professional with more than 35 years of experience in production operations, workovers, completions, and artificial lift. He has served as Chief Executive Officer of Autumn Energy for the past 16 years, growing the company’s asset base.


For the past 17 years, Lance has worked as a trusted production, completions, and workover consultant, specializing in artificial lift systems, production optimization, field operations management, and well performance improvement. His expertise spans the full lifecycle of producing assets, from well completions and intervention to long-term production optimization and operational efficiency.


Throughout his career, Lance has held leadership positions with some of the industry's most respected companies. During his 12 years with Apache Corporation, he led the completion of the company's first horizontal wells, helping establish practices that contributed to future horizontal development. He later spent six years as a Consultant with Concho Oil & Gas, where he again played a key leadership role by directing the company's first horizontal completions. His career also includes six years with EXL Petroleum and six years with High Peak Energy, where he continued to provide technical leadership, leading consulting projects and operational strategies, and operational excellence throughout the Permian

Basin.


In addition to executive leadership at Autumn Energy, Lance has provided consulting services for major operators including ConocoPhillips and Diamondback Energy, as well as numerous independent oil and gas companies. His broad experience has made him a respected advisor for complex production challenges, artificial lift design and optimization,

workover planning, completion strategies, and field development.


Lance has successfully managed operating budgets exceeding $500 million dollars while leading organizations of up to 45 direct employees and more than 200 contractors. He is recognized for building high-performing teams, improving operational efficiency, maximizing production, and delivering safe, cost-effective results.


With decades of hands-on field experience combined with executive leadership, James (Lance) Irvin has established a reputation for technical excellence, strategic thinking, and delivering measurable value throughout the oil and gas industry in the Permian Basin.




Michael D Mayes

Vice President/ Operations

Education: Texas Tech University


Micheal Mayes is an Oil and Gas professional with extensive experience in production, facility, And pipeline design throughout the Permian basin. Mr. Mayes currently serves as the VP of Operations for Autumn Energy. Current duties include the overseeing of facilities and field operations within the company. He also assists with due diligence and inspection for new acquisition opportunities.


Mr. Mayes joined Autumn Energy Operating in March of 2024. Prior to joining Autumn Energy Operating, Mr. Mayes worked for J.L. Irvin Consulting from April of 2022. Mr. Mayes oversaw multiple construction crews and production facility operators as a field manager for Highpeak Energy. Mr. Mayes began his career with Jody’s Oilfield Service in 1999 as a Senior Pump and Lact. Engineer. After Jody’s Mr. Mayes worked as a Staff Pipeline Engineer for Apache from 2005 to 2011 supervising pipeline operations in the Val Verde Basin and Southeastern New Mexico. From 2011 to 2015, Mr. Mayes served as Vice President of Operations & Technical Services for Magneto Services, leading an organization responsible for operations and field services in, production, facilities, and midstream operations. In 2015 Mayes went on to serve as Permian Basin Production Manager for Forge Oil and Gas overseeing Development in three states along with assisting in completion of 350 wells and 80 Facilities, until the sale of certain assets in 2022. Mr. Mayes has a long history of production and operating experience in the Permian Basin. Mr. Mayes has consulted on and designed a multitude of production facilities for numerous operators across the Permian and Valverde Basins.




 

Dustin Rouse 

President of Engineering

Education: Mississippi State University


Is a senior petroleum engineering consultant with more than 20 years of experience leading drilling, completions, production, and operations projects across the U.S. oil and gas industry. His career spans technical, operational, and leadership roles with independent operators and private equity-backed E&P companies, with extensive experience developing unconventional assets in the Permian Basin.


Dustin has played a key role in the planning, execution, and optimization of Permian Basin development programs throughout the Midland and Delaware Basins. His expertise includes production optimization, workovers, recompletions, artificial lift optimization, drilling and completions engineering, wellbore remediation, and field operations management. He has successfully led multidisciplinary engineering teams, managed capital development programs exceeding $120 million annually, and overseen technical organizations supporting large-scale asset development. Throughout his career, Dustin has built a reputation for practical leadership, technical problem-solving, and delivering measurable operational results. His experience across drilling, completions, production, and asset management enables him to provide clients with comprehensive engineering solutions tailored to the unique challenges of oil and gas asset development.




 

Janie Lazano 

Senior Accountant

Education University of Texas


Janie Lazano is an accomplished operations and business management professional with more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience across the healthcare and oil and gas industry.


Before joining Autumn Energy, Janie began her career in business operations in the healthcare industry. She then spent 16 years as Supervisor of Insurance and Medical Billing/Collections for PRMC. In this role, she led a high-performing team responsible for managing more than $35 million in monthly accounts receivable, ensuring efficient reimbursement processes, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. Her expertise

in revenue cycle management, insurance claims, collections, process improvement, and staff development contributed significantly to the organization's financial stability and operational excellence.


Janie has spent the last 14 years as CFO and head of accounting for three different oilfield service companies. Her duties included supervising billing, accounts receivable, inventory management, reconciliation and auditing.

Throughout her career, Janie has earned a reputation for strong leadership, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering results. She is recognized for her ability to build effective teams, streamline operations, solve complex challenges, and cultivate lasting relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. With a career defined by integrity, dedication, and continuous improvement, Janie brings a

wealth of management experience and a proven record of success across multiple industries.

 The Permian Basin is a large sedimentary Basin in the southwestern part of the United States. It is the highest-producing oil field in the US, producing an average of 4.2 million barrels of crude oil per day in 2019. This sedimentary basin is located in western Texas and far-southeastern New Mexico. 


The Permian Basin comprises several component basins, including the Midland Basin, which is the largest; Delaware Basin, the second largest; and Marfa Basin, the smallest. The Permian Basin covers more than 86,000 square miles (220,000 km2) and extends about 250 miles (400 km) wide and 300 miles (480 km) long.  


The Texas cities of Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo serve as headquarters for some of the oil production activities in the basin.

The stacked pay zones of the Permian Basin promise steady output for decades to come.

Like a wedding cake, hydrocarbon rich formations cut across the basin, including the Wolfcamp Shale, Spraberry Trend, and Bone Spring Play. The basin’s proven, technically recoverable reserves in the Wolfcamp and Bone Spring Play formations alone are estimated at 50 billion barrels of crude and nearly300 trillion cubic feet of natural gas (source: USGS). How much oil is left in the Permian Basin is also governed by economics with higher commodity prices creating incentive for producers to extract previously uneconomic oil reserves.

What is Stacked Pay?

Arguably the Permian Basin’s defining characteristic is its stacked pay. While this quality is not exclusive to the Permian, its magnitude of stacked pay is considerably greater than what is seen in most other unconventional plays in North American. To provide context, the thickness of the hydrocarbon column being currently developed is over 2,000 feet in the Midland and Delaware basins, compared to 300 feet and 500 feet in the Williston Basin in North Dakota and Eagle Ford trend in South Texas.


In essence, the term stacked pay refers to the number of commercially viable landing zones that areavailable on a single surface location.


While the resource potential of the Permian Basin’s stacked pay is undeniable, development of this resource is challenging in practice as flow barriers between zones are not always present. As many operators have prioritized development of their most productive landing zones, sub-optimal resource recovery of the commercial hydrocarbon column is observed throughout the basin due to parent-child well dynamics.
